Session 0016 - Return to the Temple

General Summary

The Heretic received grim tidings from Shara, Blüm's constable, about several children's mysterious deaths. The cleric's investigation revealed an unidentified poison in their milk. Concerned for the remaining children's safety, Shara proposed sending Benneth, escorted by a deputy, back to Karja Tal to possibly reunite them with their families. Meanwhile, The Heretic planned to return to the Temple to search for any other children who might still be there.   Prepared and resolute, they spent one more night in Blüm, setting out early the next morning amidst a fierce storm of rain, wind, and lightning. As they neared the Temple after a four-hour journey, Matteu alone spotted an ominous black lightning bolt amidst the white ones, high in the mountains behind the Temple.   Finding their previous entry point boarded up, they skillfully entered through an opposite window using a scale from Sken's hide as a lockpick. Inside, they descended to the first dungeon level, intent on rescuing more children. However, they were distracted by hammering sounds from the south.   Mogoth, leading the investigation, discovered a man sealing barrels. Upon questioning, the man, attempting to gauge their purpose, inadvertently revealed a trap by mentioning "Emeris in Water." When Mogoth erroneously agreed, the man signaled a woman who, upon challenging them, was swiftly defeated by Mogoth.   The man, now terrified, revealed to Cathlynn that the alarm bell should have already summoned guards if any were nearby. Indeed, shortly after, ten guards appeared, swords drawn.   In the ensuing chaos, Cathlynn suffered a devastating blow from the cowering man, knocking out most of her teeth and leaving her on the brink of death. Sken , using his cunning, created illusions of guard captains to deceive the real guards. This distraction allowed him to unleash a fiery attack, injuring but not fatally wounding them.   The battle's toll was heavy. Ikiri Kcarm, Cathlynn, Sken, and Ironcast were all critically wounded, struggling for survival. Tragically, Mogoth succumbed to his injuries, his death a permanent loss to The Heretic. The group's fate hung precariously in the balance, their mission of rescue now overshadowed by their own fight for survival.
