Each pendant embodies unique magical qualities that reflect the deity's attributes and powers, offering various protections and enhancements to their wearers. Below, the name of the Deithar is listed immediately after the name of the God. Note that Rennago the Jeweler painstakingly makes each Deithar. The depictions below show the most popular styles requested by the purchaser, however he is not limited to these portrayals. He is open to artistic input from the purchaser, but will insist on certain elements / designs stay the same, such as what gem is used for which god, which magics are cast upon the Deithar, and other symbolisms. Rennago points out that he wishes to revere The Gods of Lankhmar and will not craft a Deithar that would insult them in any way.

History

Non-Magical Pendants
Non-Magical Deithar by Chad Watson via Midjourney
For centuries, the people of Lankhmar have worn pendants bearing the symbol of The Gods of Lankhmar—a skull wearing a crown. These pendants are especially prevalent during the Night of Fear, a night when the veil between the mortal world and the realm of the dead is thinnest, and the city is plagued by restless spirits. Wearing these pendants is believed to offer protection and ward off malevolent entities.
Variety in Quality and Value
The non-magical pendants vary greatly in quality and value, catering to the diverse needs and desires of Lankhmarians. Common folk might wear simple iron or bronze pendants, while the wealthier citizens commission ornate versions crafted from precious metals and encrusted with gemstones. This spectrum of craftsmanship and value reflects the social hierarchy and individual tastes within the city.
The Emergence of Deithar
As Lankhmar grew in wealth and power, so did the sophistication of its citizens. The wealthy and those attuned to magic sought pendants that not only symbolized their faith but also offered tangible magical protection. This demand led to the creation of the Deithar, legendary magical pendants that harness the divine power of the gods they represent.

This was a very in-depth and interesting read! How rare are the magical variants of these pendants?

Aug 19, 2024 21:23

thanks so much! I had a lot of fun writing it , and I really wish I could have one 3-D Printed or something! The magical variants are very rare for a few reasons: If how much magic a world has was on a scale of 1-10, M'Brell would be a 3.5. On top of that, the process to make a magical Deithar is exceedingly rare, as only 1 person can make them and his list is quite full. His clientele are very wealthy and so his sale price is as well, making this a very difficult pendent to obtain.
