Bettikus Butterfly

This fey creature is more popularly known by its colloquial name "Betty the Butterfly". Originally thought to be a story to frighten children, the Bettikus Butterfly is actually a giant moth discovered and so named by Jerron Bettikus, an apprentice wizard who was writing a report on the insects of the Feywild.   The Bettikus Butterfly will appear on the prime material plane in order to feed on its favorite cuisine -- children. Using Illusion and Enchantment-based spells, it lures children to a secluded area after which it will attach itself to the child and drain his or her blood until they are completely dry. It has been said that this Fey Moth will make itself appear as a large and beautiful butterfly with big, beautiful eyes and a charming smile-- an appearance that most children would find wondrous and appealing. This feeding will satiate the butterfly for one lunar cycle. In the absence of children, the Bettikus Butterfly will target small livestock, such as goats, sheep, or poultry.   Typically, this butterfly will not revisit the same place more than once, however, there have been rare instances that it has. The community that becomes plagued with a Bettikus Butterfly can rid itself of this creature by filling a sheep's bladder with a mixture of blood and honey and dosing it with an ingestible poison. Hanging this lure on a tree branch at the edge of town nearly always attracts the butterfly away from children or livestock, as it prefers the easiest source of nutrients it can find.
