Greaves: Dusty Grasping Steps

Wondrous Item

Very Rare

A seamless fusion of dense metal plating and finely wrought chainmail segments extending from just above the knee down. The metal plates retain structural integrity but bear evidence of tremendous age, their contours slightly softened, edges rounded, smoothed by time and handling rather than design. Each greave is composed of overlapping segments of gently curved plating, carefully arranged in ascending layers to maximize flexibility and protection. The plates are interconnected through a complex weave of deeply tarnished chainmail, each tiny ring meticulously interlocked in concentric, offset rows, and formed in the shape of small arms. The chainmail is partially corroded, many of the rings worn thin, more simply missing altogether. The remaining chainmail segments hang loose in certain areas, leaving narrow gaps between plating where the underlying structure can be glimpsed—a thick, leather-like fabric that has hardened and darkened with age, cracked in places yet still maintaining slight structural cohesion. Dominating each greave's forward-facing surface is a mold of grasping hands. Sculpted from the metal plates themselves, their long, fingers spread wide upon the leg. The fingers curl forward, knuckles protruding slightly. Tiny fractures crisscross the carved hands, following natural stress lines within the metal. At the knees, small, round plates are affixed, embossed with the faded silhouette of conifer branches, each needle individually discernible despite weathering. These emblems, though worn and smoothed, are expertly detailed. The back of the armor is also clasped by metal molds of hands and arms. Moving downward, the armor transitions seamlessly into protective footwear. The sabatons are carefully segmented, each piece articulating smoothly even after extensive wear. Each segment in the shape of a closed hand, grasping the foot. Their surfaces share the same corrosion, with subtle hints of deeper etchings that once adorned the outer edges, now barely visible and almost entirely eroded. The soles are reinforced with layered metal strips, their surfaces scuffed and scratched from contact with abrasive surfaces over countless years.     +4 AC when worn.   Heavily Restrictive (do not include your dexterity modifier when calculating AC if any item with the Heavily Restrictive attribute is equipped)   Increase Bludgeoning damage output by 15%.     Set Bonus (Dusty Grasping Set):   1: N/A   2: Increase cold damage mitigation by 27.
